Equip and Catholic Super, two top-10, profit-for-member superannuation funds have joined forces as a joint venture entity. Governed by a new, skills-based board of 12 directors, the $26 billion venture will manage funds for 150,000 members. Five former CSF directors will serve under Togethr Pty Ltd, the trustee of both Catholic Super and Equip.

Andrew Fairley AM, LLB, FAICD

Chair of the Board / Independent Director

Andrew is the founding chair of Togethr, having served as the Equip Chair for more than a decade. He has a long and distinguished association with the Australian Superannuation Industry. He commenced practice as a superannuation lawyer in 1980 and founded Australia’s first specialist superannuation law firm, IFS Fairley in 1993. He formed the Law Council of Australia Superannuation Committee in 1986 and remained its Chair for 10 years. He practices as a consultant to Hall & Wilcox lawyers in Melbourne. With a passion for the Australian tourism sector and nature-based tourism in particular, Andrew was Deputy Chairman of Tourism Australia until June 2017. Keenly involved in the philanthropic sector, he is Chair of the Sir Andrew Fairley Foundation and the Foundation for Alcohol Research and Education. Andrew is also Deputy Chair of the Mornington Peninsula Foundation.

Danny Casey, BCom, MEcon, CPA

Deputy Board Chair / Independent Director

Danny joins the Togethr Board as the founding Deputy Chair with the merger of CSF and Equip. Prior to this role, Danny was the CSF Board Chair for two years. Danny has extensive experience as a senior executive and management consultant with private and public sector organisations, as well as not for profits, in Australia and overseas. He has served on many boards and committees, including the Finance Council of the Archdiocese of Sydney, the Board of the University of Notre Dame Australia, the Catholic Cemeteries Board and the Catholic Development Fund. Danny’s professional career includes senior executive roles with Energy Australia, Ernst & Young, Lend Lease as well as leadership of a commercial law firm. As a management consultant and advisor, he has assisted businesses and not-for-profit organisations on strategy and governance. Danny is a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA) with a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) from the University of NSW and a Master of Economics (MEcon) from Macquarie University.

Penny Davy-Whyte

Independent Director, BA (Mktg & Comm), GAIST

Penny brings a focus on digital marketing strategy to the board. She has previously held a number of senior management positions, including her most recent role leading the Australian Federal Government’s media communications agency. Penny brings a breadth of expertise across traditional and digital communication and a thorough understanding of evolving technologies to the Fund.

Justine Hickey

Justine is a professional non-executive director with over 24 years in investments, superannuation and corporate governance.  She chairs the board of fund manager, DNR Capital. Previously, she was a director of the GPT Metro Office Fund, Australian Ethical Investment Ltd, Flagship Investments Ltd and an expert member of Sunsuper’s Investment Committee. Justine takes an active interest in the not for profit sector and is a director of RSPCA QLD. She has a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of FINSIA (Financial Services Institute of Australasia) and an Associate of the CFA Institute. She is also a member of the Responsible Investment Association of Australasia (RIAA).

Jan is an experienced director and CEO, with over 16 years of board level experience in the funds management and commercial sectors. As founder and managing director of Cleantech Ventures, Jan successfully raised and managed two venture capital funds - the Centre for Energy and Greenhouse Technologies Fund and the Cleantech Australia Fund. Previously he held various executive roles with the NSW Government. Jan has a Master’s Degree in law (Environmental) (LLMEnv) from Sydney University, a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and Postgraduate Diploma of Environmental Studies (Macquarie University), as well as post graduate qualifications in financial management from FINSIA. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD).

Peter has a long history in teaching and has extensive experience in various senior roles in the superannuation industry. Peter is an experienced trustee director, having served as the Deputy Chair of CSF Pty, as a director for the National Catholic Superannuation Fund and as Director/Secretary of the Diocese of Wagga Wagga Superannuation Fund.

Debra James

Debra James

Deb has an extensive education background, has served in the union movement for more than 25 years and is currently the General Secretary of the Independent Education Union Victoria/Tasmania (IEU). After starting her working life as a teacher in Catholic primary schools in Melbourne, Deb commenced her union career representing teachers, principals and support staff in catholic and independent schools. This has culminated in a long career with the IEU. Deb was the first woman to occupy the role of General Secretary of the Victorian Tasmanian IEU branch representing the professional and industrial interests of over 20,000 members. She is a member of the Federal Council and Deputy President of the IEU Australia with 76,000 members nationwide. Deb also holds other director positions on the Teacher Learning Network and the Federation of Education Unions.

David Doolan

David Doolan

David holds more than 25 years’ experience in corporate treasury and finance, including extensive financial markets experience. He has worked for a number of global corporations across a diverse range of industries, including mining, automotive, financial services and manufacturing. David brings a wealth of knowledge to his role as Member Director, having previously been a Member Director of Rio Tinto’s former Superannuation fund. David has a Bachelor of Business in Accounting, is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors (MAICD) and an Association of Superannuation Funds of Australia accredited Trustee Fellow (TFASFA), for his former role with Rio Tinto’s Superannuation fund.

Mark has more than 35 years’ experience in superannuation, estate planning and administration, elder law, funds management, corporate and securities law. He retired as a partner of Allens after 36 years and continues in practice as a sole practitioner. Mark is a Member of the Law Council of Australia's Superannuation Committee. He holds a B. Juris LLB (Hons) from Monash University, a Bachelor of Jurisprudence and a Bachelor of Laws with Honours.

Michael is a successful human resource professional with hands on experience in developing and implementing human resource strategies. He has worked within the maritime, fire services and Victorian electricity industries, working at both strategic and operational levels. With previous experience as a trustee director in the profit-for-member superannuation sector, Michael oversaw the merger of the Seafarers Retirement Fund and the Stevedoring Employees Retirement Fund to form what is now Maritime Super.

Carolyn previously served as a CSF director for five years. She brings extensive experience in strategic financial management, reporting and accountability and governance within the Catholic education sector having previously worked to support schools in the Diocese of Sandhurst for 20 years. Carolyn has a Bachelor of Commerce (BCom), is a Fellow of CPA Australia (FCPA) and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Super Trustees (GAIST).
